Out of action for a month.
Yup. That was my first week in skateboarding - in extreme pain having come down *hard* on my first day. In all honesty I am way too old for this crap.
Staring, as I am, down the barrel of 50, my body and mind are both slowing up big time. Watching my 17yr old son learn his way around a deck *in real time* without landing on his ass, it is only the built in parental-pride software that stops me from falling head first into jealousy and tbh, a full on strop.
Skateboarding, however, has to be done. It's a necessary thing: like losing your virginity or building with LEGO: There comes a time when every nerd has to at least try to connect their mind to their body ...and see what happens. Yeah, so, I fell on my back and injured both elbows, but can you imagine the carnage had I decided to take up dancing?
The ramp I came off was clearly beyond my ability. I knew it. I just hoped beginner's luck would carry me through one time. Turns out I'd used all that up surviving the "street" earlier. Of course my elder son managed it brilliantly and of course I am very, very, proud of him.
Update: Turns out I fractured at least one of my elbows. Ouchies. Can't wait to get back on my board tho.
